Panel types

Panel styles wesupply and fit

We match your existing style where possible — or help you choose something new if you are replacing the full fence.

Lap panel fencing

The most common style across Buckinghamshire estates. Horizontal overlapping boards in a frame. We stock standard sizes and can usually match your existing panels on the same visit.

Tongue and groove panels

A smarter, more solid look than lap panels. Vertical boards butted tightly together in a frame. Better privacy and a cleaner appearance, and they tend to hold up to weather slightly better.

Trellis top panels

A full or half-height trellis section fitted above a solid panel. Adds height for privacy or climbing plants without blocking all the light. We can match the solid panel below and fit the trellis on the same job.

Decorative & hit-and-miss

For gardens where you want airflow and some light through the fence rather than a completely solid barrier. Boards spaced alternately on front and back of the rails.

Honest advice

Panel repair orfull replacement?

If your fence is under 10 years old and in generally good shape — just one or two panels blown out — repair is the right call. New panels on solid existing posts is a quick, cost-effective fix and there is no reason to do more than is needed.

If your fence is 12–15 years old with soft panels, sagging posts and failing gravel boards, you are at the point where repairs will keep coming. We will tell you this honestly at the survey stage — and if we recommend a full replacement, we will quote you for both closeboard and panel so you can compare the long-term cost.

One thing we always do on panel replacements: check the posts. A new panel on a rotting post is a job that will need doing again in 12 months. If we spot a failing post, we will include a replacement in the quote rather than leave a problem behind.

“Very professional from start to finish. Paul visited to measure up, gave us a fair written quote and the job was done within the week. The fence looks fantastic.”

Common questions

Panel replacementquestions answered

Can you replace just one or two broken panels?+
Yes, and this is one of the most common jobs we do. We carry standard panel sizes on the van so most single or double panel replacements are completed in one visit. Lap panels come in standard 6ft-wide sections in various heights — 3ft, 4ft, 5ft and 6ft. If your fence has non-standard panels or an older style that is harder to match, we will tell you at the survey stage.
My fence posts are fine but the panels are old and rotting — is it worth just replacing the panels?+
If the posts are solid and properly concreted in, yes — new panels on good posts is a perfectly sound repair and much cheaper than a full replacement. We will check the posts as part of the quote visit. If any are soft at the base or wobbly, we will tell you and factor in a post replacement if needed.
How much does fence panel replacement cost?+
A single panel — supply and fit — typically costs £80–£150 depending on size and style. A full fence replacement in lap panels usually comes in at £60–£100 per metre installed, including posts and fixings. If you are replacing panels only on existing posts, it will be less. We always provide a written quote before any work starts.
Should I replace with the same panels or switch to closeboard?+
It depends on what you want to spend and how long you want the fence to last. Panel fencing installed on concrete posts will last 10–15 years; closeboard on concrete posts lasts 20–25 years. If your fence is already 10+ years old and you are spending money on it, we would usually recommend at least getting a closeboard quote to compare — over a 20-year period it typically works out cheaper.
Do you remove and dispose of the old panels?+
Yes — all old panels, broken timber and fixings are taken away by us. We do not leave skips on your driveway or debris in your garden.
