What we install
Gate types weinstall and repair
Timber side gates
The most common request. We make and fit timber side gates in closeboard, framed ledge-and-brace, or slatted styles. All made to measure for your specific gap — side passages vary enormously.
Driveway entrance gates
Single or double driveway gates in timber, made to measure for your opening. We fit ring hinges into concrete posts or solid brick piers for a gate that will not drop or sag over time.
Matching your existing fence
If you have an existing closeboard fence and want the gate to match, we build it using the same materials — featheredge boards, same post treatment, same finish. The result looks like one seamless installation.
Gate replacements
Old gates that sag, bind on the floor or no longer latch properly are a very common job. We remove the old gate and post, re-concrete a new post if needed, and hang a new made-to-measure gate.
How we do it
The details that makea gate last
Most gates that fail do so because of two things: a sagging hinge or a collapsing post. We address both at the start. Posts are set in concrete — never just compacted soil — and we use ring hinges that are concreted or bolted into the post rather than screwed into the face, which shear out over time under the weight of the gate.
We use heavy-duty galvanised hardware throughout. Cheap stainless bolts and pressed hinges rust, strip and fail within a few years. A decent gate properly hung on proper hardware should last as long as the fence itself.
All timber is pressure-treated. Gates have more weather exposure than a fence because they are not flush to the wall — if you treat the timber properly at the outset, a light annual oil is all the maintenance they need.

Pricing
What does a gardengate cost?
A single timber side gate fully fitted — including the post if needed — typically starts from £300–£500. A pair of driveway entrance gates will be more, depending on the width of the opening, the gate design and whether new posts are required.
Size, access and ground conditions all affect the final price. The best way to get a proper number is to call us, tell us about the job, and we will arrange a free visit to measure up and quote.
